Almost 21 months after receiving his Top Fuel license, Mike Salinas will debut his new Scrappers Racing Top Fuel operation at his hometown track, Infineon Raceway, at this weekend’s FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals in Sonoma.
The operation, assembled in a veil of secrecy in Campbell, Calif., will debut with full hospitality, support trailers, show trucks, and a pit area with pinstriped toolboxes and machines, custom-fabricated and polished equipment, eye-catching colors and graphics, and flamed trailers and trucks.
Salinas is new to Top Fuel but not to drag racing. His Scrappers Racing team, which also includes his wife, Monica, and four daughters, has campaigned multiple cars throughout the years, from Jr. Dragsters to a blown alcohol front-engine dragster.
The team has enlisted national-event-winning crew chief Wayne Dupuy to tune the car.
“Wayne has tuned several top contenders and brought them to their best, and we are hoping to add to his long list of accomplishments,” said Salinas. “I wanted to bring my own style to the mix, and I’m looking forward to competing with the best and fastest in the world.”
